Professional Project (30 credits)

This unit requires students to conduct an in-depth research project on a chosen area of study, giving you a chance to demonstrate the skills and know-how you’ve acquired throughout the course. Through the project, you will be able to draw on the different strands of learning you’ve been taught so far. Plus, you will be given the opportunity to get some hands-on experience by engaging in a real project from your workplace.

Dr Rosane Pagano

Principal Lecturer and Programme Lead, Global Online MBA programme

Rosane joined Manchester Metropolitan University Business School in 1995 as a Business Information Technology Lecturer from the University of Louvain, where she carried out externally funded research in the field of Infomatics and Education.

During her tenure at Manchester Metropolitan, Rosane has held four successful Fellowships in Academic Practice, each entailing research and development activities on a learning and teaching project.

Prior to joining academia, Rosane built her graduate career as an Information Systems Analyst and Developer for Cia Vale do Rio Doce (Brazil’s largest state mining enterprise) and software company Medidata Informatica.

She holds a BSc (Hons) Electrical Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and a Doctorate in Applied Sciences.

Our online masters is designed to work around your work and life commitments. It can be completed in two years with a recommended study week of up to 15 hours.

Study wherever and whenever – all you need is a laptop and an internet connection. Using our Virtual Learning Environment  you will enjoy a programme of highly interactive live online seminars and presentations and have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of group tasks with your fellow students across the globe.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) comprises 180 credits. Students are expected to study 90 credits per year.

Each 15-credit unit is normally delivered over an 8-week teaching period. Weeks 1 to 6 comprise taught input. Week 7 provides an opportunity for students to consolidate their learning before submitting the assessment in Week 8. The Professional Project unit is normally 16 weeks.

Overall Methods of Assessment

  • You will be assessed by coursework.
  • Each unit is assessed by an assignment (typically 3,000 words, or equivalent). The nature of the assignment varies by unit. Examples may include an essay, case study, literature review, research brief, extended project, business analysis, and contributions to the discussion forum.
  • The Professional Project will normally take the form of a 10,000-word project-style essay.

Study and assessment breakdown

10 credits equates to 100 hours of study, which is a combination of live seminars, discussion boards and independent study. A Masters qualification typically comprises of 180 credits, a PGDip 120 credits, and a PGCert 60 credits. The exact composition of your study time and assessments for the programme will vary according to your style of learning, but it could be:

  • OR significant management experience (10 years or more) and a record of achievement in business and leadership 
  • ALL applicants must be a minimum of 25 years of age

English language requirements:

Applicants whose first language is not English (and whose first degree was not taught in English) are required to produce evidence of English language proficiency. We provide a FREE Pearson English test to all applicants if required  which can be requested from your enrolment advisor during the application process.
