Meet Tanzeem: Student Success Information Advisor
Here at Manchester Metropolitan University, the Student Success Team’s main objective is to make sure you have all the support you need, from your very first day of studies through to graduation.
We spoke to Student Success Information Advisor Tanzeem to find out how her team can help you stay on track towards academic success.
Tell us a little bit about your role and the Student Success Team
As a Student Success Information Advisor, I will act as your first point of contact for any non-academic support you might need throughout your time on the programme. I will organise a welcome call with you as well as a programme-specific, group-welcome webinar to introduce you to the University. I’ll explain exactly how to access any support and ultimately set you up with the knowledge and information you need to feel both confident and comfortable embarking on your postgraduate student journey.
Should you have any questions or need any assistance, we are contactable by phone and email, Monday to Friday. You will also benefit from having a dedicated Student Success Progression Advisor who will aim to reach out to you at least once every module to make sure you have everything you need as you progress through your studies.
What are the main responsibilities of the Student Success Team?
The Student Success Team are here to support you, enabling you to navigate your way successfully through each of your modules and in meeting your assessment deadlines. We’ll be in touch regularly with reminders for important key dates such as your submission deadlines or payment dates to secure your enrolment on your next module.
The team also act as a liaison between you and any of the University’s specialist services you may wish or need access to from time to time. Whether you’re looking for extra help with your academic skills, support from our Disability Services team or guidance on engaging with any of our communities virtually through the Student Union – we’ll connect you with the right person and resources.
Most importantly, our team wish to make your experience as a student as seamless as possible by providing well-rounded support, advice, and guidance.
Whatever you need, we’re only a phone call or an email away!
What do you think is most exciting about learning online?
Learning online gives you the opportunity to engage with other students from all over the world. You will gain varied perspectives from peers whose experiences you can learn from, and similarly, you can share your own knowledge and understanding with them.
Learning online also provides the flexibility to complete your studies alongside your personal and work commitments in an interactive, effective, and enjoyable way. You can access your Virtual Learning Platform and study from wherever you are in a way that fits with your schedule, whether you’re at home or even on your travels.
What’s the most rewarding thing about working for Manchester Met?
I really enjoy being a part of our students’ onboarding process. It’s great to meet new students from different backgrounds and speak to them about their motivations and goals. They have all had such interesting experiences which have led them to starting the programme, and our team take pride in being a part of their new journey!
What’s been your most memorable moment so far as part of the Student Success Team?
I spoke with a student who had been struggling with their academic writing during their first assessment, as they had not studied in a while. I advised the student to seek some extra support from our specialist Study Skills team, who can provide academic guidance and feedback on drafts.
A few months later, I received a call from the student and asked them how their first assessment had gone, and I was extremely pleased to hear they had passed with a merit grade. It was great to see how our team was able to play a role in helping the student realise and achieve their full potential and such a good first result.
